KL Rahul will lead the Indian team in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the first two ODIs against Australia. The first of the three ODIS will be played in Mohali on Friday, September 22.

KL Rahul is fresh from a good Asia Cup campaign. He scored 169 runs at an average of 84.50 including a match-winning century against Pakistan. Now he has been given leadership responsibilities against a full-strength Australian side.

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh in his latest YouTube video said that Rahul should not sacrifice his batting position as captain. He further backed Shreyas Iyer to bat at three and Suryakumar Yadav to bat at six. SKY registered three ducks in the last ODI series against Australia earlier this year. India lost the series 2-1.

Dont Want KL Rahul’s Batting Position To Be Changed: Harbhajan Singh

“I hope Shreyas Iyer does well batting at No. 3. We cannot make him bat anywhere below that. KL Rahul has been fantastic at No. 4 and I don’t want his position to be changed. India should not demote him to No. 5 to give Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav a chance. However, KL can choose to bat at No. 3, and Shreyas can be the No. 4” said Harbhajan.

Speaking about India’s possible playing XI against Australia, Harbhajan said Washington Sundar might be picked ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin in the XI.

“India will have to choose between Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin. I feel Sundar will get the nod because he was also called to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup final. He didn’t get much to do in that game. So, I think he should be India’s No. 8 in the first ODI.”

Harbhajan Singh’s India Playing XI For First ODI Against Australia: Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah.
