One of the major boxes that India would’ve hoped to tick in the ongoing first ODI against Australia at Punjab Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali was of Shreyas Iyer. However, that didn’t work as the batter was extremely unlucky.

India started staggeringly well in their chase of 277 runs. Openers Shubman Gill (74) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (71) gave their team a rollicking start and piled up over 140 runs together. After the latter was back, out walked Shreyas Iyer at 3.

However, it was a flop show as the batter got himself in the run-out. It happened during the 24th over the game when Shreyas Iyer punched a slower ball from Adam Zama towards the cover. He didn’t look at non-striker and immediately took off for a single. Shubman Gill didn’t respond at all and he was forced to run back.

Cameron Green picked up the ball and immediately threw the ball towards the keeper. Shreyas Iyer was well short of his crease.

Shreyas Iyer had a forgettable outing in Mohali. He was dropped earlier on in his innings by David Warner and then went through an unfortunate run-out. He scored just 3 runs off 8 balls. The batter would be hoping to cash the opportunities in the last two games as the World Cup is around the corner.

Shreyas Iyer recently underwent back surgery and made a comeback in Asia Cup 2023. However, just after two games he had a back spasm and missed the rest of the games. The ongoing game against Australia however was extremely important for him as he desperately needed game time.

After Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan perishes

After the wicket of Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan looked to play some shots and was looking good. However, he had a soft dismissal under his belt as he perished to Pat Cummins.

The Australian skipper bowled a short delivery outside off, to which Ishan Kishan tried to uppercut. The late movement of the ball undid Ishan Kishan as it caught a faint edge through to the keeper. He fell for 18 off 26 balls with the help of two fours.
