Shreyas Iyer failed to make a mark once again in IND vs ENG 2nd Test. The right-handed batter got out for 29 runs in the 2nd innings of the match. After Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal, former India pacer RP Singh analyzed his flop batting show in the series.

Shreyas Iyer scored 27 runs in the 1st innings of India vs England 2nd Test. In the previous match too, he failed to score a half-century. In the absence of Virat Kohli and injured KL Rahul from IND vs ENG 2nd Test, Shreyas Iyer is a senior member with a lot of responsibility in the middle-order.

Notably, Shreyas Iyer is often considered to be an expert with spin. It’s a huge reason why selectors back him in the home series. However, Iyer lost his wicket to spinner Tom Hartley in the match. As he tried to smash a lofted shot against the left-arm spinner, he was caught by Ben Stokes with a stunning catch.

Shreyas Iyer is ‘lacking good touch’, feels RP Singh

After Shreyas Iyer’s another flop show, former India pacer RP Singh analyzed his dismissal and poor batting show in the India vs England Test series. During a chat with Cricbuzz, RP Singh said Iyer has lacked a good touch in the IND vs ENG Test series. He also feels that Iyer’s shot off Hartley does not suit the Test format.

“Not at all (on whether his shot was on for Tom Hartley). The shot does not sit in line with Tests. As people say Shreyas Iyer plays spin right, he definitely plays it well. However, he always had issues with pace in short-pitched deliveries”, RP Singh said.

“He tried to go back foot after taking a step forward on many occasions. He tries many things. Shreyas scores big knocks when he finds spin tracks as we have seen in many domestic games. However, he was lacking good touch today”, the cricketer-turned-commentator further added. Have a look at the video below.

Iyer also gave a dismal show in the previous Test, losing his wicket for 35 and 13 across both innings. Hence, he needs to pull up his socks in the upcoming Test matches against England. India will face England in five Tests during England tour of India 2024.
