Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, a former Indian leg-spinner, believes that Rishabh Pant and Team India would benefit from a sabbatical from white-ball cricket. In order for Pant to recover his form, Sivaramakrishnan added, the Ranji Trophy should be given to him.

For the Indian squad, the lad has been nothing short of brilliant in Test matches, but he hasn’t been able to offer the same level of consistency in the other forms.

Many are debating the 25-year-position olds in the white-ball system following his repeated failures in the T20Is and ODIs against New Zealand.

Here is what Sivaramakrishnan had to say about Rishabh Pant in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda that was set up by Sony Sports Network:

“I’d play Rishabh Pant in Tests to bring him into decent batting shape. He has improved his keeping, but I will leave him out of the white-ball team for the time being and advise him to go play Ranji Trophy cricket and come to the two Tests against Bangladesh”

“There is no damage in participating in the Ranji Trophy. He’ll have time to regain his form and return to the side,” Laxman Sivaramakrishnan said.

Rishabh Pant is attempting to rediscover form too tirelessly, as per Laxman Sivaramakrishnan. By playing reckless strokes as Pant has recently, he thinks no batter can ever regain his form.

With Pant walking out to bat these days, Sivaramakrishnan, a former leg-spinner himself, believes that bowlers immediately become favourites.

In his words: “If Pant is getting out to good balls, you can say that the boy is unlucky. But he is getting out too bad shots. From the moment he arrives at the crease, he is looking to take the attack to the opposition. Rishabh is trying to throw his bat around and is asking for too much trouble. You can’t hit your way out of form.”

The ODIs against Bangladesh will be essential for Pant because he needs to demonstrate consistency if he wants to be included in India’s plans for the ODI World Cup the following year.
