Bangladesh beat India by five runs in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla in Dhaka on Wednesday, December 7, clinching the three-match ODI series and taking a 2-0 lead. Mehdi Hasan was in excellent form and scored an unbeaten century and took two wickets. At 207 for 7, India’s fight seemed to be over, but skipper Rohit Sharma’s valiant effort was in vain as he nearly led his team to victory while batting with a split left webbing.

India needed a six off the final ball of the game, but Mustafizur Rahman did well to perfect the yorker under pressure. The left-arm seamer bowled a slew of slow leg breaks in the 48th over, and Mohammed Siraj played a maiden over. Meanwhile, Axar Patel scored 56 runs off 56 deliveries, and Shreyas Iyer scored 82 runs off 102 balls.

They’re Playing Too Much Cricket – Rohit Sharma

In a conversation with former cricketer Anjum Chopra, Rohit spoke at length about players suffering injuries after clearing fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Team India will be without Rohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar, and Kuldeep Sen due to multiple injuries for the third ODI against Bangladesh.

“I mean there are definitely a few injury concerns. We need to try and get to the bottom of it. I don’t know what exactly it is. Maybe they’re playing too much cricket. We need to try and monitor those guys, because it’s important to understand when they come for India, they need to be a 100%, in fact more than 100%,” Rohit said after India were upstaged by a spirited Bangladesh side in Dhaka on Wednesday.

“It’s something we have to look at. We have to sit with our team back home at the NCA as well and try and monitor their workload. That is something we need to look at. We can’t afford guys coming in here half-fit and representing the country. There’s huge pride and honour in representing the country and if they’re not fit enough, it’s not ideal. Having said that, we just need to get to the bottom of it and find out what exactly is the reason behind this,” Rohit added.

Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and pace ace Jasprit Bumrah were ruled out of the ICC World T20 Cup 2022 due to respective injuries. Both Washington Sundar and Chahar spent a lot of time in rehabilitation at the NCA. After India’s loss in the second ODI, head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that three Indian players have been ruled out for the Bangladesh series.
