India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, will miss the Second Test against Bangladesh, which begins on Thursday, while he recovers from a thumb injury received in the second ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
The opening dilemma for Team India will also be resolved by Sharma’s absence because Shubman Gill will have another chance to open the innings following his first Test century against Bangladesh.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) announced on Tuesday, December 20 that Rohit Sharma would not be playing in the second Test of the two-match series in Bangladesh. In the series decider, which begins in Mirpur on December 22, Rohit won’t be able to captain India.
Due to a thumb injury, Rohit Sharma was unable to play in the first ODI in a three-match series in December and the first Test. As a result, he was not eligible for the first Test. The BCCI medical staff is treating Rohit because he has not yet fully healed from his injury, according to the board.

Rohit Sharma will need more time for the injury: BCCI
Rohit will need additional time for the injury to heal completely before he can bat again.
“Rohit Sharma is being treated by the BCCI Medical Team following a left thumb injury received during the second One-Day International against Bangladesh in Dhaka,” the BCCI announced.
“The Medical Team is of the opinion that the injury needs some more time to heal completely before the Indian captain can bat and field with full intensity. He will continue his rehab and will not be available for the second and final Test against Bangladesh,” he added.
Pacer Navdeep Saini will also miss the second Test due to an abdominal muscle strain. According to the BCCI release, the fast bowler will now report to the NCA for further monitoring of his injury.
