Former India National Cricket Team left-arm spinner Maninder Singh has said that the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli has set such high standards for himself that fans every time expect him to hit a century when he walks out to bat.

After going through a lengthy lean patch, Virat Kohli, who dominated world cricket for almost a decade, returned to form during the Asia Cup 2022 and since then he has been consistently scoring runs for India National Cricket Team.

I am sure his performance in T20 World Cup would give him a lot of confidence – Maninder Singh on Virat Kohli

In an interview with Times Now, Maninder Singh was asked whether Kohli’s World Cup performance will help him rediscover his form across formats. The 57-year-old responded that Kohli’s brilliant World Cup performance would definitely have filled him with a lot of confidence. He elaborated:

“I am really hoping that happens. Because he is such a star, such an entertainer and he is so passionate about the game. And me being a fan of his, I have always wanted him to do well and thankfully after a long time, he consistently started scoring runs. Even though he was scoring those 50s and 70s, but he has set such a standard for himself that you are always expecting a hundred from him whenever he walks onto the field. But it was not happening.

“But I am sure his performance in T20 World Cup would give him a lot of confidence and it proved that he still has got a lot of cricket left in him and I am expecting him to do well in Tests as well.”

Kohli failed to play a good knock for Team India in the first ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh National Cricket Team at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday, December 4. He was cleaned by Shakib Al Hasan in the 11th over for a 15-ball 9.
