Umran Malik was on fire after India brought him into the attack during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Wednesday.

He unsettled the hugely experienced Shakib Al Hasan with short deliveries, pinging him on the helmet, necessitating a statutory concussion test, before casting long Najmul Shanto with a peach in his next over, sending the off-stump cartwheeling.

Mohammed Siraj gave India a great start to the second ODI against Bangladesh by dismissing both openers, Anamul Haque and Litton Das. However, India has an injury problem as Rohit Sharma injured his thumb early in the game while attempting for a catch at slips. The Indian captain was brought to the hospital for scans.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das decided to bat. After suffering a shocking loss to Bangladesh in the opening match in Dhaka, India will be fired up to make a big comeback in the ODI series. India had reduced the hosts to 136/9 in the run-chase after defending a meager 187-run goal; nevertheless, Mehidy Hasan’s valiant unbroken effort (38*) clinched a memorable one-wicket victory for Bangladesh.

Shanto remained in his crease expecting a short delivery, but Umran bowled it full and quickly, with the speed gun recording it at 151kmph. The Bangladeshi batsman attempted a drive but was outclassed on the outside edge, leaving him for 21 off 35.

The young fast bowler has impressed with his bowling on his maiden tour to Bangladesh and hit hard lengths to instill fear in the Bangladesh batsman.

The last time the two teams squared off in an ODI series, MS Dhoni’s Indian team fell short 1-2, winning just the final dead rubber. With all-rounder Shakib al Hasan in good form, Litton Kumar Das will lead Bangladesh in hopes of repeating that win.
