The IND vs ENG Test series resumes with the postponed Manchester Test now to be played in Birmingham from July 1. India were leading 2-1 last year before the final Test match was postponed to 2022. A win in Birmingham will help India to win the series 3-1/ While a win for England will help to draw the series 2-2.
Both teams will be led by new captains. While Ben Stokes will take charge of England, Rohit Sharma, the new India all-format captain will take over from Virat Kohli. The series is a part of the ICC WTC 2021-23 thus the final Test match holds great importance for both teams. The BCCI has already announced the squad for the one-off Test. It looks a strong squad with the return of Cheteshwar Pujara into the playing XI. The form of Virat Kohli, however, still remains a concern.
Meanwhile, there are a few Indian players who can look to retire from Test cricket after the IND vs ENG Test series. In this article, we take a look at such three players.
ENG vs IND : 3 Indian Players Who Can Retire From Tests After The Series
Cheteshwar Pujara
Pujara scored heaps of runs in the county championship for Sussex as he made his comeback into the Indian squad for this Test match. He can look to retire from the game on a high by making a massive contribution in the Test match. A century or a score of substance would be the ideal way to sign off from what has been a celebrated Test career.

Ajinkya Rahane
Rahane was not included for the one-off Test against England as he injured his hamstring in the IPL. The injury might keep him out of the Test squad for four to six weeks. Thus this is a big opportunity lost for him to make a case for his Test comeback. He can retire from the game and concentrate on his white-ball career with the T20 World Cup and 50-Over World Cup knocking on the door.
Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin is now India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the Test having gone past Kapil Dev’s tally of 435 in India’s last Test series against Sri Lanka at home. The off-spinner should be included in the Xi for the Edgbaston Test where he can contribute massively for his team’s victory and can retire from the game on a high.
