After winning the 5th Test England take on India in a white-ball series comprising of three T20Is and three ODIs. The series kicks off with the first T20I on July 7. Both teams have had a day’s turnaround ahead of the first T20I. The Men in Blue are topping the T20I rankings while England is placed second.
England have announced a 14-man T20I squad with Jos Buttler taking over from Eoin Morgan as the skipper of the white-ball side. Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow have been rested from the T20Is series but will be back for the T20Is.
England will face a weakened Indian team in the first T20I as BCCI has announced two different squads for the series. This is where the hosts have a chance to take a lead in the series. In this article, we predict England’s playing Xi for the first T20I against India.

Jos Buttler (C/WK)
Buttler, the new EnglandT20I skipper is a specialist in the format and will open the batting in the series. He has a role to play at the top for his team.

Jason Roy
Roy has been a terrific opening partner for Buttler over the years. Both of them play with attacking intent and an aggressive mindset. The Indian bowlers need to dismiss them early to stem the run flow.
Dawid Malan
Malan started his career for England as a Test specialist and then transformed himself into a good all-format player. He will bat at number three for his side.
Liam Livingstone
The all-rounder will slot in at number four. He is fresh off a terrific IPL season scoring over 400 runs and hitting 38 sixes. He can also bowl both off and leg-spin which makes him indispensable in this T20I side.
Moeen Ali
Ali is another utility cricketer in England’s T20I setup. He too can bat anywhere in the batting order and bowl quality off-spin. He will surely bowl all his four overs besides scoring crucial runs. He will slot in at number five.
Sam Curran
David Willey
Willey does not get his opportunity to bat much but is a handly batter. He has opened the batting for his county side and also for Perth Scorchers in the BBL. He slots in at seven.
Chris Jordan
Jordan is England’s designated death overs specialist. He can swing his bat as well if needed and thus is a useful T20I cricket. He has played in various T20 leagues across the globe.
Tymal Mills
Mills is another T20 specialist for England. He played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL before he was eventually ruled out of the season with an injury.
Reece Topley
Topley has been recalled into the England T20I squad. Being a left-armer he will be useful as India have a number of right-handers. He can pose problems angling the ball away from them.
Matthew Parkinson
Parkinson the left-spinner concludes likely England playing XI against India in the first T20I. The leggie has played four T20Is for his side so far.
