Former Indian selector Sarandeep Singh has said that the senior India batter Virat Kohli, who has been going through a lean patch for an extended period of time, shouldn’t be dropped from the Indian team.

Virat Kohli had a poor run with the bat in the recently concluded T20I series against England. In the second game, he scored 1 run off 3 balls, before being dismissed by Richard Gleeson. In the third T20I, the 33-year-old scored 11 runs off 6 balls, including 1 four and 1 six, before being dismissed by David Willey.

Speaking to Times Now, Sarandeep Singh said that Kohli is a player who is capable of winning World Cups for India single-handedly.

“What are the selectors doing to understand where is his batting going wrong? He shouldn’t be dropped. Everybody knows his capabilities and his potential. He can single-handedly win you World Cups,” Singh told Karishma Singh of Times Now.

As per some reports, Kohli, who has been rested for West Indies ODIs, will also be rested for the five-match T20I series against West Indies. Meanwhile, Singh said that Kohli should not be rested as he can only get his form back by playing non-stop cricket.

“Why is he being given rest then? What is this illogical way of selecting players? He plays one series then rest and then he plays another series. Make him play if he is not performing, that’s the only way for him coming back to form,” he added.

Rohit Sharma Shares His Views On Kapil Dev’s Comment On Virat Kohli

Legendary Indian all-rounder and World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev had said that if Ravichandran Ashwin could be left out of the Indian squad, so could be Virat Kohli if he is not performing

At a press conference after India’s 17-run defeat in the third T20I against England, skipper Rohit Sharma was asked about his views on Kapil Dev’s comment.

“He is watching the game from outside and does not know what is happening inside. We have our thought process. We build our team and behind this, there is a lot of thinking. We back the boys and give them opportunities.

“So, these things you do not get to know from outside. So, whatever is happening outside is not important but what is happening inside is more important for us,” Sharma said during a post-match press conference.

“If you talk about form then everyone goes through ups and downs. The player’s quality does not get affected. So, we should keep these things in our minds.

“When a player is doing well for so many years, then one or two bad series does not make him a bad player. We should not overlook his past performances. We who are in the team know the importance of the player. They have got all the right to talk about it but it does not matter for us too much,” he added.
