Former India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla believes Deepak Hooda cannot be compared to Virat Kohli because Hooda has only played 3-4 international games.

Deepak Hooda has been left to warm the benches despite producing a gallant century against Ireland, and a quickfire 33 against England.

In whatever format over the past several years, Kohli has not been at his best. His test results are the worst they have ever been. In T20Is, he continues to average over 50, but his strike rate has plummeted. In IPL 2022, he had a 116 strike rate. To be fair to the modern-day great, he did make an effort during the England series to adjust to India’s new offensive style of cricket but ultimately failed.

In the second T20I, he attempted to play a nasty heave to a Richard Gleeson ball that was well outside the off-stump and was out for 1. He hit a pair of lovely lofted drives off David Willey in the series’ final game, but the very next ball was smashed out at cover.

‘Kohli is just one good inning away’: Piyush Chawla

How much time can the Indian team management offer Kohli with guys like Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan waiting in the wings? Piyush Chawla, a former Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, believes that Australia will host the T20 World Cup.

“Kohli is a person with a great track record. Because that could happen to anyone, you do not always go on the current form. And Kohli only needs one strong game to succeed. He will recover after that solid knock, and he will be back in shape.”

“When entering a tournament like this, Hooda has only played three to four games at the international level. It is not Kohli versus. Hooda, you know. Immediately entering your starting lineup is Kohli, “On ESPNCricinfo, Piyush Chawla stated.

A groin strain kept Kohli out of the opening ODI against England. Although the extent of his injury is not yet known, it appears unlikely that he will play in any further One-Day Internationals.
