Jasprit Bumrah Registers His Best Bowling Figures In ODIs; 3rd Best By An Indian Bowler In ODIs
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah picked up his career-best figures in ODIs as he ran through the England batting order in the first ODI between the two sides at the Kennington Oval on Tuesday.
Rohit Sharma won a crucial toss and opted to bowl first in overcast conditions. Bumrah dealt a double blow in his very first over, sending back Jason Roy and Joe Root for ducks.
Soon after, Ben Stokes also went for a golden duck before Bumrah picked up the wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone. England lost half their side inside the first eight overs, with only Jos Buttler fighting for a good total.
Bumrah was later brought back to wipe off the last two wickets, castling both Brydon Carse and David Willey to pick up just his second 5-wicket haul in ODIs and also his best figures.
With that, he now has the third-best figures in ODIs for an Indian bowler, only behind Stuart Binny’s 4/6 against Bangladesh and Anil Kumble’s 6/12 against the West Indies. It is also the 4th best ODI figure in England.
Best bowling figures in ODIs for India:
Stuart Binny – 6/4 vs Bangladesh in 2014
Anil Kumble – 6/12 vs West Indies in 1993
Jasprit Bumrah – 6/19 vs England in 2022
Ashish Nehra – 6/23 vs England in 2003
