Former Pakistan bowler Danish Kaneria believes that while Sanju Samson performed admirably in the 2nd T20I against Ireland, he will need to be more steady in order to keep his place in the Indian team.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who suffered injuries in the first match, was replaced in India’s playing XI for the final T20I in Dublin on Tuesday. The right-hander jumped at the chance, scoring 77 runs off 42 pitches at the top of the lineup.
Kaneria believes Samson cannot afford to throw any opportunities now, given the high level of competition for the wicket – keeper position in the Indian team. He stated that the Kerala-born batsman will have to fight for a place with Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and Dinesh Karthik.
“The T20 World Cup 2022 is rapidly approaching, and India has a plethora of options for the wicketkeeper’s role, including Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson.” Samson was given the chance (against Ireland) and took advantage of it. But it continues to remain to be seen whether he can maintain consistency” Kaneria stated on his YouTube channel.
‘Deepak Hooda is in tremendous form’: Danish Kaneria
Danish Kaneria highlighted Hooda’s increasing self-assurance. He also emphasized how the batsman in both games was successful in capturing the opposing bowlers.
“Deepak Hooda is in fantastic shape. He also performed admirably in the opening contest. He played a truly great knock today against Ireland. He and Sanju Samson had a great game. He is now playing with more assurance” Danish Kaneria said.
On Tuesday, Hooda scored a magnificent century to lead India to a commanding total of 225. In the match, he scored 104 runs off just 57 deliveries. India won the second T20I by four runs, giving them a remarkable 2-0 series victory over Ireland.
