After winning the three-match ODI series 1-0 against India, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said that the focus of the side will now shift to Test cricket. The Black Caps will have a break after the conclusion of the 6-match limited-overs series before they travel to Pakistan for two Tests and three ODIs.

New Zealand lost the three-match T20I series against Hardik Pandya-led India, but they bounced back strong to clinch the ODI series. Kane Williamson and Co. won the first ODI comfortably at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday, November 25.

Meanwhile, the second ODI at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday, November 27, and the third ODI at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Wednesday, November 30, were washed out due to rain.

Talking about the third ODI, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The decision turned out to be a good one for the side as the Indian batters failed to keep going against the Kiwi bowlers and they were bundled out for 219. Washington Sundar scored a good half-century and Shreyas Iyer scored 49 runs to help India reach a fighting total.

Chasing the target, New Zealand openers batted brilliantly and the Kiwis were at 104/1 in 18 overs, before rain interrupted the play. New Zealand were way ahead of the target as per the DLS method and they were in the driver’s seat to win the series 2-0. However, New Zealand needed to play two more overs to let the DLS target come into the picture. As the DLS target is considered only after the completion of 20 overs.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said:

“When we have been playing cricket we have been applying ourselves. Some good stuff in the rained-off games too. We knew that 20 overs would constitute a match, but we could see the weather coming, it has been following us.”

Kane Williamson further said that Daryl Mitchell and Adam Milne did a good job with the ball in the third ODI. He added that the New Zealand players will finally get a much-needed break. He said:

Daryl has been hanging out for a bowl for ages. Milne felt a niggle but didn’t want to stop. Focus changes to the Test arena. Guys get a break now and that’s important too. Been pretty busy. We will regroup as a Test team after the break.”
