New Zealand Cricket Team had won the toss and elected to bat first against India at Napier. The Black Caps had one change to their lineup as Mark Chapman replaced Kane Williamson for the clash. New Zealand had a decent power-play where they scored 46 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.

Glenn Phillips and Devon Conway smashed half centuries but the rest of the batters couldn’t make an impact. The team lost 8 wickets for 30 runs and got bundled out for 160 runs. Siraj & Arshdeep were the picks of the bowlers who took 4 wicket hauls and were quite disciplined in their line and length.

Indian Cricket Team had a terrible start to the power-play overs as the team lost 3 wickets in the power-play overs but managed to score 58 runs. The batters were quite fearless in their approach and never allowed Tim Southee & Co to take the control of the match.

In the 7th over, the leg spinner Ish Sodhi took the big wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik Pandya was looking in sublime touch as he scored unbeaten 30 runs in 18 balls. At the end of 9 overs, India’s score was 75-4 and then there was rain. India’s DLS score was equal to New Zealand due to which the match ended in a tie and India won the T20I Series by 1-0.

It’s disappointing even with the bat- Tim Southee

During the post-match presentation, Tim Southee was asked about the match. “It’s disappointing even with the bat. We spoke about getting out there and giving everything we could, take early wickets. We knew if we can get those wickets, anything could happen, but unfortunately, the weather came in,”  said Southee.

Could have gone either way- Tim Southee

“You don’t know until both sides batted on it, would have been an interesting game but hasn’t gone the full tilt. Little bit of uncertainty around the scoreboard whether it was a tie when the rain came in. Could have gone either way, the way we attacked with the ball and to put them under pressure was pleasing. Nice to be back in some ODI cricket against a quality side like India. Hoping for a good crowd in Auckland,” he added.
