India is scheduled to travel to South Africa for a complete bilateral series and the squad is likely to be announced after the two-match home tests against New Zealand. The series against South Africa will comprise three tests, three ODIs, and four T20 internationals.

The test series against South Africa starts on the 17th of December and ends on the 26th of January. The series will come under the second cycle of the World Test Championship and after an excellent run for India in overseas tests, this will be the right time for them to go for a series win in South Africa as well. Here are 5 Indian players who can make their test debut in the series.

Shreyas Iyer:

Shreyas Iyer is most likely to get the nod for the South Africa tour as he has been considered the future of the Indian side in all formats. Iyer has been a consistent performer for India in the limited-overs format and is yet to make his debut in the test team.

Iyer has a phenomenal first-class record with an average of nearly 52 and he has been rewarded a place in the Indian side against New Zealand. However, it will be interesting to see if he gets a chance in the series against New Zealand and it will take a big ask from the Mumbaikar. Iyer is also seen as a future captain and if Rahane fails again, then there could be an extended chance for Iyer.

Suryakumar Yadav:

Suryakumar Yadav earned his maiden call up to the Indian test side in the recent tour of England, however, he did not get a game there. Suryakumar has been scintillating in the limited-overs cricket for India ever since his debut at the start of the year and he was unfortunate to miss out on the test squad against New Zealand.

Suryakumar Yadav has immense experience in the first-class format in the domestic circuit and he has both the defensive and offensive game in his skillset. He can play a huge role in the away tours with Pujara and Rahane’s spot in danger and could make his debut as well in the series against South Africa.

KS Bharat:

KS Bharat has been in the fray for a long time now but hasn’t made a cut into the playing XI yet and he has been picked up now for the New Zealand series. Wriddhiman Saha might be the first choice wicket-keeper but the veteran has been ageing and could soon announce his retirement.

KS Bharat had a wonderful IPL season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and he has shown his skills with the bat. He could well be on the flight to South Africa if manages to make a mark in the home series against New Zealand.

Prasidh Krishna has already made his limited-overs debut for India in which he has been very impressive. His raw pace and height have troubled the batsman and he has been picked up for the New Zealand series. It will be interesting to see if he gets a game.

Prasidh Krishna can play the role that Ishant Sharma has been playing over the year with his height factors and hitting the lengths consistently. The right-arm seamer can hit the 140kmph mark with ease and it won’t be a surprise if India opts for some pace in their armory with Prasidh Krishna.

Avesh Khan:

Avesh Khan travelled as a net bowler for India in the England tour and he has been around the domestic circuit for a while now. The Madhya Pradesh seamer was very impressive in the recent IPL 2021 where he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the season.

He was rewarded with a place in the Indian T20I squad for the home series against New Zealand and he is already seen as a future prospect. He has everything needed for a fast bowler in terms of pace and height and he can bowl a heavy ball as well. India might try out new fast bowlers as a backup in South Africa and Avesh could be a surprise package to make his debut.
