Former South African skipper followed the India vs South Africa Test series closely. As it turned out, India lost the series 2-1 after winning the first Test in Centurion. They have slipped to the fifth position in the ICC World Test Championship points table. They are below Sri Lanka, Australia, Pakistan and South Africa in the table at the moment.

Speaking exclusively to News 18, Ali Bacher spoke about the performances of Ravichandran Ashwin and Rishabh Pant. Pant scored his fourth Test ton and his third outside India. He scored an unbeaten 100 as India was bowled out for 198 in the second innings of the Cape Town Test. Kohli scored 29 and was involved in a crucial 94-run stand with Pant.

“Rishabh’s century was a special one. It was a pleasure to watch him bat; the left-hander is a special talent,” said Bacher after being impressed by how he played in the third and final Test.

Bacher then kept his opinion on Ravichandran Ashwin who picked up just three wickets in the series. His rival spinning partner Keshav Maharaj picked just one wicket to show for his efforts. The former South African spinner said that he was surprised by how little the spinners bowled in the series.

” Ashwin hardly bowled. I have never seen a Test series in South Africa when the spinners had had such little impact. The two spinners hardly bowled,” Bacher said.

Ali Bacher concluded his interaction by saying that the Indian bowlers were unlucky not to get too many wickets for the way they bowled in the series. On the other hand, he hailed the South African batsmen for their gutsy and determined approach with the bat.
