India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour has backed Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara amid their ongoing poor form in Test cricket. Rathour said that they are trying their best and the coaching unit is fine as soon as they keep trying their best efforts.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have faced a drought while scoring runs in Tests in 2021. Both the players have not managed to score a century in Tests in 2021. While Cheteshwar Pujara averages below 30 in Tests in 2021, Rahane owns a batting average of around 20 this year.

Cheteshwar Pujara And Ajinkya Rahane Are Trying Their Best: Vikram Rathour
While speaking during the press conference after Day 4 of IND vs SA 1st Test, Vikram Rathour supported Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane over their batting struggles. He has that the coaching unit is patient as long as the duo try their best.
“As far as Pujara and Rahane are concerned, they are trying their best, they are giving their best. Rahane was in really good touch but unfortunately, he got out, so has Pujara. Pujara in past has played some important innings for us, you see these are challenging conditions, not many people have scored runs here. We need to be patient as long as they are trying their best, giving their best as coaching unit we are fine. Are we getting impatient? Not at this stage, I think,” Vikram Rathour said.
In ongoing India vs South Africa 1st Test, Ajinkya Rahane scored 48 runs in the 1st inning while missing to score his half-century. In the 2nd innings, he scored 20. Cheteshwar Pujara suffered a miserable duck in the 1st innings and scored 16 runs before losing his wicket in the 2nd innings. Since both the players only play for India in the Test format, they have a lot of responsibility over their shoulders.
Meanwhile, South Africa have reached 94-4 in the 2nd innings of the ongoing IND vs SA 1st Test and need 211 more runs to win. India need 6 more wickets to grab the victory as South Africa aims to chase 305-run target in the final innings. Earlier, India scored 327 and 174 in both innings while South Africa posted 197 in the 1st innings.
