IND vs SA: Mayank Agarwal And Shreyas Iyer Scored A 100 And Fifty, I Think Those Two Guys Have Got To Play– Steve Harmison

Former England pacer Steve Harmison wants India to include opening batsman Mayank Agarwal and middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer in the playing XI in the India tour of South Africa Test games.

Shreyas Iyer who made his Test debut in the Kanpur Test against New Zealand smashed an amazing century and a half-century in the match to become the first player in the history of Indian cricket to achieve this milestone and he even won the ‘Player Of The Match’ award on his debut.

Meanwhile, Opening batsman Mayank Agarwal smashed 150 and a half-century in the Mumbai Test against New Zealand and he too was awarded ‘Player Of The Match’ for his sensational performance.

Former England speedster feels that when India tour South Africa they will have to face pacers Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi so they need in-form players in the team.

“If you’re going to go to South Africa and survive against Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi, they need people in form,” Harmison said on his YouTube channel.

Harmison picked his India playing XI for the tour in which he didn’t include India’s Test mainstay Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. Notably, Rahane has been heavily criticised for his poor run for an extended period of time and Pujara has also been very inconsistent. Harmison asserted:

 “And the ones who are in form are Shreyas Iyer and Mayank Agarwal. Rohit Sharma comes back in so I will pick him and Agarwal to open. KL Rahul fits that No. 3 spot. Then you’ve got Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Ashwin, Shami, Siraj and Bumrah.”

Harmison further added that the players who are in a good form should be rewarded by the management. He said:

“That for me would be a formidable team going from India. There are runs in that team, there is definitely wickets in there on whatever surface you are going to play. And you reward people who are in a bit of form. Agarwal scored a 100 and fifty. Shreyas Iyer become the first player to score a 100 and fifty on debut. I think those two guys have got to play.”

The India tour of South Africa has been delayed by a week and now it is set to begin on December 26.
