India and South Africa will lock horns with each other in a forthcoming ODI series post the ongoing Test series. The IND vs SA ODI series will observe three games between both teams. The ODI series will commence with the 1st ODI on January 19 and conclude with the third game on January 21. Ravichandran Ashwin is the first Indian player who might announce his retirement after a poor show in the IND vs SA ODI series. Ashwin has not played an ODI for more than 3 years. The off-spinner last played an ODI in June 2017. He got a chance in the upcoming ODI series due to the unavailability of injured Ravindra Jadeja.

Ashwin very well knows that if he does not perform in ODIs, selectors might pick other spinners in future ODI series. Moreover, the right-arm spinner is a powerful bowler in Tests and he might think to retire from ODIs to focus entirely on Test format. Being 35 years old currently, Ashwin also has only a few years left in his international career and he would like to give his best during these years.
