5. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad is the first player on this list. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad was impressed with his spectacular batting show in IPL 2021, he is still quite inexperienced for the national team. Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul are the two possible openers for India in the ODI series

Even if one of them faces an issue, Ishan Kishan is another player who might be roped in as an opener. Hence, Ruturaj Gaikwad might not get a chance to be part of the playing XI in the IND vs SA ODI series.

4. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin is the second player on this list. Ashwin got a chance to be part of the ODI series in the absence of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. However, with the availability of Shardul Thakur, India might go with him for the all-rounder option.

Moreover, Yuzvendra Chahal might get a call as the spinner in the playing XI. Ashwin is a spectacular spin bowler in Tests, but not similarly effective in ODIs. On the other hand, Chahal has always been impressed with his bowling in the white-ball format.

Jayant Yadav is another player who might be benched during the IND vs SA ODI series. Yadav has been roped in to replace Washington Sundar in the squad. Yadav has not played an ODI for years. He has played only 1 ODI so far which was in 2016.

Against a powerful team like South Africa, India might not risk playing him after such a long gap. Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal are more popular options for spinners for the team.

Prasidh Krishna is another player who might be benched throughout the IND vs SA ODI series. With the presence of strong pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, and Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna might not get an opportunity to be part of the playing XI.
