According to the reports, Indian Test captain Virat Kohli will not take part in the upcoming 3-match One Day International series against South Africa.

Batting maestro Kohli who will be leading the Test team in the South Africa tour has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision to not be part of the One Day Internationals series.

The India tour of the South Africa series is set to begin from December 26 and it will consist of three Tests and three ODI matches. Also, the final Test will be played from January 11 to January 15 and the One Day Internationals series will commence from January 19.

The reports from Times Of India suggests that Kohli will play all three Test games and after that, he will be taking some time off to celebrate the first birthday of his daughter Vamika who was born on 11 January 2021. Virat Kohli is reportedly planning a holiday with his family after the Test series. Also, it is being told that Kohli missing the series has nothing to do with the captaincy change in Indian cricket.

Rohit Sharma who has replaced Kohli has a white-ball captain and was named as India’s new Test vice-captain is set to miss the Test series against South Africa as he has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury and Priyank Panchal who recently led India ‘A’ in the shadow tour to South Africa has replaced the senior opening batsman in the squad.

“Team India Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the Test squad,” official BCCI Statement.
