Virat Kohli-led India faced a major batting collapse on Day 3 of the first Test against Dean Elgar-led South Africa at the SuperSport Park, Centurion on Tuesday, December 28. Notably, India went from 272/3 to 327/10 in no time.
On Day 1 Indian team dominated against South Africa as the openers added a century partnership. KL Rahul smashed a sensational century, Mayank Agarwal scored a brilliant half-century, Virat Kohli scored good 35 runs before losing his wicket away after playing a terrible shot and senior batter Ajinkya Rahane also looked comfortable out in middle. Then the former Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and current vice-captain Rahul added 73* runs for the 4th wicket and at the end of the day, India were at 272/3.

Day 2 of the first Test was washed out due to continuous rain at the venue and the one day break favoured the home side a lot as the South Africa bowlers did a great job on Day 3 by dismissing set batters KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane early on in the innings.
After that, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant came out to bat alongside spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and the duo didn’t survive for very long as Ashwin was dismissed in the 98th over and Pant was sent back to pavilion in the 99th over. All-rounder Shardul Thakur then came out to bat and he was expected to score smash some quick runs but he smashed only one four and was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada in the 100th over.

Now it was up to Indian tailenders; Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj to add as many runs as possible and they didn’t disappoint as Shami smashed 2 boundaries before losing his wicket against Lungi Ngidi, also Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj hit a few fours against Proteas bowling attack.
In the end, India managed to put 327 runs on the board with KL Rahul being the top run-getter and from South Africa Lungi Ngidi bagged a 6-wicket haul.

Today:
England 37/6
India 36/6 (so far)— Abhishek Mukherjee (@SachinAzharCT) (@ovshake42) December 28, 2021
Five wickets for 13 runs, still not even close to being the worst collapse today. #SAvIND #Ashes

With rain predicted on Day 5, I don't mind this Indian collapse at all.
310 all out gives them a better chance at a win than 330/5 at lunch.

Okay now it's becoming a collapse. Pant just wants to play a stroke. Shows zero game alertness at times.

That gut feel of a collapse. At Centurion, it is tricky to start again. Yes, there could be some moisture. https://t.co/pb9BpJyECQ

Proper collapse from India but they have the bowling and runs too (I feel) to be precise, relentless and put the pressure back on South Africa. #SAvIND
