Indian Test captain Virat Kohli has missed out on the second Test of the two-match Test series against South Africa National Cricket Team at the Wanderers, Johannesburg due to an upper back spasm.
Middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari who has been waiting for a very long time to get an opportunity in the playing XI has replaced the Indian Test skipper in the team. Meanwhile, newly-appointed Test vice-captain KL Rahul is leading the team in the Johannesburg Test against South Africa.

Virat Kohli-led India beached the Centurion fortress by defeating Dean Elgar-led South Africa by 113 runs to get the lead of 1-0 in the three-match Test series. If India wins the second Test under the leadership of KL Rahul, this will be India’s maiden Test series victory on South African soil.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul has won the toss and elected to bat first in the 2nd Test. After the toss, he revealed that Kohli has a back spasm and was hoping that the red-ball skipper will recover before the third and last Test match of the series. He said:
“Unfortunately Virat has had an upper back spasm, the physios are working on him and hopefully he’ll recover for the next Test. It is every Indian player’s dream to captain his country. Really honoured and looking forward to this challenge. We have had a few good wins here and hopefully, we’ll look to continue that. Hanuma Vihari comes in place of Virat. Just the one change. It was a good Test at Centurion overall. We really performed well as a team and are really excited about this match.”
Meanwhile, South Africa captain Dean Elgar reacting to Kohli’s absence said that it doesn’t bother the Proteas side who is the opposition captain.

Fewest first-class games as captain before Test captaincy debut for India:
0 – Ajinkya Rahane
1 – MS Dhoni / KL RAHUL
2 – Gulabrai Ramchand
3 – Virender Sehwag / Virat Kohli#SAvIND— Sampath Bandarupalli (@SampathStats) January 3, 2022
Virat Kohli has an upper back spasm. Legit injury considering all the back stabbing @BCCI's done to him. #SAvIND

What a moment for KL! Test captain for the first time after what’s been a beautiful few months for him. He did not even play a test from Aug 2019 to Aug 2021!

If you are KL Rahul, you must think life is a roller-coaster…..

When was the last time Kohli missed a match due to injury. Not rested. Can't seem to remember.

Virat not playing in this Test match. He is the highest run scorer in Joburg as an Indian. He is missing his 99th test match due to upper back spasm. This ground is very lucky for him but it's very unfortunate that he is not playing. #ViratKohli #INDvsSA

Is Virat Kohli really injured or did they find a lame reason to drop him?#ViratKohli #BCCI #INDvsSA

Kohli was given an option to drop himself or Lord Shardul. The decision is in front of you, ladies and gentleman. #SAvIND

This year already has a bad start
Wanted Kohli to score a century
And now he’s not playing in Second Test #INDvsSA #ViratKohli— Sarcaster ?? (@sarcaster_) January 3, 2022
So even Virat Kohli can suffer from injury too. But that gives an opportunity for someone like KL Rahul to showcase his Captaincy skills. Looking forward to this match. #SAvIND
