India will tour West Indies for three ODIs and five T20Is between July 22-August 7. The series begins with the ODI series almost immediately after the end of India’s ongoing tour to England. India lost the Test match against England and will now face them in a three-match T20I series followed by an ODI series from July 7.
The BCCI has announced India’s ODI and T20I squads for the series against England. The squad that played against Ireland has been picked for the first t20I. The second and the third T20I squads and the ODI squads see the return of the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah amongst others.
Indian head coach Rahul Dravid spoke about the selectors identifying a core group of 15 to 20 players for the T20 World Cup. He also hinted that the squads for the England and West Indies series will be selected around these people. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at three senior Indian players who might be dropped from the ODI squad for the tour.

Dinesh Karthik
Karthik has been a T20I specialist for India since 2018. The Nidahas Trophy saw him making a comeback to the Indian team. Eventually, he lost his place and made a comeback again after IPL 2022. However, he is no longer in the plans for an ODI comeback. Karthik also seems to have made peace with the fact that he is a T20 specialist for India in the final stretch of his international career. He has been very vocal about playing in the T20 World Cup for India.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvi is another player who seems to be developing into a sort of T20 specialist for India. Though he played his last ODI against South Africa in January earlier this year, he might be dropped from the ODI squad given that there are a young group of bowlers who are trying to prove themselves in ODI cricket. Bhuvi continues to be India’s premier T20I bowler alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
Mohammed Shami
Shami also might be given a break from ODI cricket. He does more with the red ball than the white ball and over time has been seen as a Test specialist. With the likes of Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik available for selection, they might just get the nod ahead of Shami. Also the conditions in West Indies which might produce flatter wickets in the ODI and T20I series might not be conducive to Shami’s style of bowling.
