IND vs WI : India Surpasses Pakistan To Create Elite Record After Beating West Indies In 2nd ODI In Trinidad

India beat West Indies by two wickets and with just two balls remaining in the second ODI in Trinidad to complete yet another ODI series win against West Indies. The win was designed by contributions from several Indian players. 

At the heart of this Indian win was Axar Patel‘s all-round brilliance. He first bowled a spell of 1-40 and then scored his maiden ODI fifty (64* off 35 balls) taking India over the line. He hit a six to finish off the game for India securing a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The second ODI win ensured that it was India’s 12th consecutive for India over the West Indies. Apart from Axar’s unbeaten 64 there were half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer (63) and Sanju Samson (54). The four of them scored almost 200 runs from the entire total. 

“I think this is a special one. It came at a crucial time and also helped the team to win the series. We have done the same in the IPL. We just needed to remain calm and keep the intensity up. I was playing an ODI after close to 5 years. I would want to continue performing like this for my team,” said Axar Patel after taking India to a win.

Earlier in the game, Shai Hope scored 115 in his 100th ODI game for West Indies taking them to a competitive 311/8. He batted till the 49th over of the Windies innings allowing the rest of the batters to bat around him. Skipper Nicholas Pooran (77) scored crucial runs in the nd after the top-order contributed considerably. Kyle Mayers (39) and Shamarh Brooks (35) ensured a stable start for the Windies on which Hope and Pooran built on. 

Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan also complimented Hope for scoring a hundred on his 100th ODI. Dhawan is also amongst the few players to score a ton in his 100th ODI. Both teams play the third ad final ODI on Wednesday, July 27.

“It was a great feeling when I scored a 100 in my 100th ODI game. I would want to congratulate Hope for doing the same,” Dhawan complimented saying.
