India faces West Indies in the first T20I in Tarouba, Trinidad on July 29 after winning the ODI series. The Men in Blue are the top-ranked T20I side while West Indies are ranked sixth on the table. The final two games of the five-match series will be played at Lauderhill in Florida.

India recently defeated England in an ODI and T20I series heading into this series against West Indies. They whitewashed the Windies in the ODIs and are now looking for favourites to win the T20I series as well. Both teams have played 20 T20Is to date with India winning 13 games and Windies winning six.

For India, their seasoned T20I cricketers will be back to playing the T20I series. Rohit Sharma will return to lead the side. Along with him, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav all return as well. KL Rahul will miss the series after being affected by the covid virus.

West Indies will be led by Nicholas Pooran who has the tough task of getting his batters to perform in the series. After failing against Bangladesh, the Windies batters also failed to perform to their potential against India in the ODIs. Pooran also admitted the fact that the side is getting is still to get to terms with playing ODI cricket. T20I cricket being their stronger suit, they are expected to play batter.

“As a batting group, it was going to be a challenge with DLS coming into play. We did get some partnerships, but not as many as we wanted, that cost us the game. There are a few inexperienced players, still figuring out how to play ODI cricket” said Pooran.

The Brian Lara stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad has hosted just T20Is till now. Despite the ground opening in 2007, the venue has hardly hosted any international cricket. With rain constantly playing spoilsport in the ODIs, it is expected to play spoilsport in T20Is as well.

The weather prediction for the next few days is cloudy and rainy in Trinidad. Though the temperature will be in its high 30s there will be intermittent rain hampering the progress of the first T20I.
