IND vs WI: West Indies In T20 Are No Minnows; India's Win In 5 T20s Is Something To Be Proud Of – Sanjay Manjrekar

Former India National Cricket Team batter Sanjay Manjrekar has said that the West Indies National Cricket Team are not “minnows or rollovers” in T20Is and India National Cricket Team should be proud of their T20I series victory over the Men In Maroon.

Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team hammered Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies National Cricket Team by 4-1 to clinch the five-match T20I series. On the same tour, Shikhar Dhawan-led Team India had clean swept the Men In Maroon in the three-match ODI series.

During an interaction on the Sports 18 show “Sports Over the Top,” Manjrekar was asked how much should be read into India’s victory against a ‘bad’ West Indies. The 57-year-old said that “no credit can be taken away from India” for the T20I series victory. He elaborated:

“Let’s be nice to the West Indies. They are good people to hang with and stuff like that. No credit can be taken away from India for these wins. West Indies in T20 cricket are no minnows or rollovers.

“So India’s win and the way they have won in the five T20s is something to be proud of. There were various permutations and combinations. India didn’t play a single wrist-spinner in the first three T20Is and then they unloaded two wrist-spinners in the last two.”

Sanjay Manjrekar further said that Team India made several changes to the playing XI throughout the series and fielded different combinations, but everything worked out for them. He was also expecting the Nicholas Pooran-led side to perform well in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. He asserted:

“Opener Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan comes in. So they have tried everything and everything has worked. So this is a great situation to be in. West Indies – you will see in the T20 World Cup, they will have some good performances against the other teams. So well done to India.”
