IND vs ZIM: 3 Indian Players Who Might Be Benched Throughout The Series

India continue their cricket caravan as they take on Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series ahead of the Asia Cup which starts from August 27. The three IND vs ZIM ODIs will be played on August 18, 290 and 22. All the matches will be played in Harare. Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal have all been rested for this tour. KL Rahul is yet to recover from his covid scare.

The 15-member Indian team is led by Shubman Gill with Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar back in the team after a long layoff. Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi are the betters included in the side. Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj are among the bowlers named.

The series presents a great opportunity for many of the players to perform and stake a claim for their selection in the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. Rahul Tripathi for example has a great opportunity to score some runs and shine in the series. He was a part of the Indian team that travelled to Ireland but did not get to play a game.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

With Shubman Gill showing impressive form in the series against West Indies, it is difficult for the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rahul Tripathi to break into the XI. Both are taken into the side as backup openers and can only feature if there is any injury to the regular openers.

Ishan Kishan

Kishan has been benched throughout the series against West Indies. Sanju Samson has taken advantage of the limited opportunities that he has been given. He scored his maiden ODI fifty in the big run chase against West Indies. In the T20Is, he has played a few good knocks. Thus Sanju might be preferred over Kishan as the keeper in the XI.

Kuldeep Yadav

With Axar Patel and Washington Sundar part of the ODI squad, Kuldeep might be benched for all three games. The chinaman spinner has spent most of his time in the last two years on the sidelines and the same might happen to him in this series. Kuldeep is yet to get a game in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. He was not selected in the ODI squad for the series.
