Star India National Cricket Team opening batsman KL Rahul has provided an update on his health after not being included in the India National Cricket Team squad for the forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

On Saturday, July 30, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member ODI squad of the India National Cricket Team for the three-match ODI series against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team. The three-match ODI series will be played on August 18, August 20 and August 22 at the Harare Sports Club.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul has been out of action since the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He suffered a groin injury ahead of the five-match T20I series against South Africa National Cricket Team and he missed the entire series.

The injury also ruled him out of the two-match T20I series against Ireland National Cricket Team, the entire England tour, where a Test, three ODIs and three T20Is were played, and the three-match ODI series against West Indies National Cricket Team.

The 30-year-old was included in India’s T20I squad for the five-match T20I series against West Indies National Cricket Team, but his availability was subject to fitness. Ahead of his West Indies departure, he was tested positive for Covid-19 on July 21 and as a result, Rahul has been ruled out of the entire series and Sanju Samson has been named as his replacement in the squad.

He asserted that he contracted the Covid-19 virus as he was nearing a return to full fitness.

“Hey guys. I wanted to clarify a couple of things about my health and fitness. My surgery in June was successful, and I had begun training with the hope of returning to national duty for the teams tour of the West Indies. Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I tested positive for COVID – 19,” KL Rahul wrote in a message posted on his official Twitter handle.

“This naturally pushes things back by a couple of weeks, but I aim to recover as quickly as possible, and be available for selection as soon as I can. To represent the national team is the highest honour, and I cannot wait to get out there back in blue. See KLR you soon,” he further wrote.
