Former India National Cricket Team player Ajay Jadeja believes that a change is required in Team India’s batting order in the remaining two ODI matches of the three-match series against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team.

Team India won the first ODI of the three-match ODI series on August 18 at the Harare Sports Club against Zimbabwe National Cricket Team. India bowlers Deepak Chahar, Prasidh Krishna and Axar Patel bagged 3 wickets each to restrict Zimbabwe to the score of 189. Chasing the target, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill batted exceptionally well and completed the run-chase in 30.5 overs to help India win by 10 wickets.

As the opening duo of Dhawan and Gill chased down the target, stand-in India captain KL Rahul, who was added to the squad a few days after the squad announcement to ensure he has some vital game time ahead of the Asia Cup 2022, didn’t get an opportunity to bat.

Meanwhile, Jadeja feels Team India should change their batting order because there is a possibility that Rahul will not get an opportunity to bat if he comes out to bat at No.4.

“Maybe the batting order will change. KL Rahul is here to get some batting practice.

“So the guys who are going – KL, Hooda and Avesh Khan – these are three guys who are part of that squad – one way you would look at giving them more time in the middle but if this is the batting order and he is going to walk in at four, maybe he won’t get to play a single ball on this tour,” Jadeja said on Sony Sports.

It could be that he is rested because you want fast bowlers to be fresh – Ajay Jadeja on Avesh Khan

Former India cricketer further said that the right-arm pacer Avesh Khan is a sure shot selection in India’s playing XI for the Zimbabwe ODIs, but he was rested for the first game because the management probably wants him to be fresh for the Asia Cup.

“You could bring in any one of them. They are all good players and Avesh Khan especially, who is going to be a part of that squad. So it could be that he is rested because you want fast bowlers to be fresh. Otherwise, he would probably have made it to the side.”

“You have got Deepak Chahar who is coming back – so one game is not enough to look at him, Siraj who has bowled exceptionally well – numbers don’t tell you that story, Prasidh Krishna I think is a fabulous talent, one game is too short to judge anybody anyway,” he added.
