Andy Flower and Daniel Vettori are reportedly the leading contenders to become the head coach of the new IPL franchise, Lucknow, from the next season onwards.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, Flower has sneaked ahead of Trevor Bayliss and Gary Kirsten who were also in contention. The former Zimbabwe cricketer has also received the vote of confidence from KL Rahul, who is touted to be the captain of the Lucknow franchise.
The duo has also worked in Punjab Kings (PBKS) recently and they share a good rapport. It has also emerged that they recommended each other’s names for their positions. For now, the franchise has been told to sit tight on the matter owing to the issue with CVC Capitals.
The BCCI is currently setting up a panel to investigate CVC after alleged reports of betting links emerged. Reportedly, both issues are interlinked which has forced the BCCI to ask the Sanjiv Goenka group to wait for further confirmation.
Andy Flower has sent his resignation to PBKS – BCCI Official
To back the possibility of Andy Flower taking over as head coach of Lucknow is the statement from a BCCI official, who revealed that the Zimbabwean has resigned from his position as the PBKS head coach ahead of the IPL 2022 season.
The PBKS franchise has retained only two players – Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh – and will have a purse of around INR 72 crores heading into the IPL 2022 mega auction.
