BCCI Says IPL Media Rights Likely To Go For A Huge Figure, Multiple Parties Interested
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that they will be releasing the Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights very soon, after a minor delay due to procedural issues.
As per Cricbuzz, they have also denied the rumour that the delay was caused due to the pressure from the host broadcaster, Star. The apex board stated that Star had no issues with them releasing the rights immediately.
They were supposed to be out in October 2021 itself but the tender for the same hasn’t been put up yet. They have also sought help from KPMG, a professional service agency, in helping them sell the rights of the biggest cricketing league in the world.
IPL rights expected to increase due to two new teams – BCCI
Additionally, the rights are expected to be sold at a high price due to interest from multiple parties. The previous cycle’s value was estimated at INR 16,347 crores but it will go past INR 20,000 crores this time around due to the increase in the number of teams and games.
“We are expecting a very high price. It would be unfair to point out a figure. The tender will involve multiple parties and we are hoping (for) very high interest from the parties,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying.
The IPL 2022 season will get underway on March 26, Saturday, and the first game will be played between the finalists of the previous season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The league stage will be played across four venues in two cities, Mumbai and Pune. Mumbai will host 55 games while Pune will have 15 matches at the DY Patil International Stadium. The venues for the knockout stages will be announced in due time.
