South Africa born, New Zealand International, Devon Conway made his third consecutive fifty in IPL 2022 as he scored 87 runs against Delhi Capitals here on Sunday. He missed his century but he helped his side, Chennai Super Kings post 208 runs in their first innings.

Conway played the first game of the season for CSK but was dropped after that. He then took a break from the tournament for his wedding. Since his return to the playing XI, he has been in sublime form as he has hit 85 not-out, 56, and 87 in his last three innings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Is Making My Job Easier: Devon Conway

Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad have formed a formidable partnership at the top of the order for CSK. Since Conway’s return to the side, even Gaikwad seems to have gotten his touchback as in the last 5 games he too has scored over 200 runs. The right hand and left-hand combination at the top seem to have worked in favour of Gaikwad a great deal.

In what has been a bad season for CSK Conway’s form should give them a lot of confidence for the next year’s tournament as they would like to believe that at least their openers are sorted.

Conway in the post-match presentation said, “The thought process was just about keeping it simple. It was just about communicating with Ruturaj. With Hussey, I just discussed how the surface would be and who the bowlers would be to target. I am just happy to build that partnership up with Rutu, and the way he’s playing, he makes my job easier. I have to be true to myself, authentic to myself. I look to play cricket shots and just assess where to put my foot down. I have to give credit to MS, because I got out trying to play the sweep in the last game, and he told me to look to play straight.”

MS Dhoni did say in the post-match presentation after CSK lost their last game that the batters need to be careful in what shots they play, Conway implemented it in the very next game as he played a lot straighter against Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel.
