Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as the new Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain after MS Dhoni decided to step down as captain ahead of CSK’s first game against KKR on March 26 at the Wankhede stadium. Jadeja becomes just the third player to lead the franchise after Dhoni and Suresh Raina. CSK vs KKR is the first game of IPL 2022 as well.

Former CSK player Subramaniam Badrinath who has spent a long time with CSK along with Dhoni and Jadeja has said that the southpaw will now become a 4-dimensional cricketer with the added responsibility of captaincy on his shoulders. Chennai’s campaign opener against Kolkata Knight Riders will be his first-ever game as CSK captain. Speaking to Times Now on the sidelines of the National Poker Series, Badrinath called Jadeja a ‘4D’ cricketer.

“Jadeja has always been a bowler but in the last two years, he has improved as a batsman tremendously. The biggest part of his game in which he has improved is his batting. His batting has made him a proper all-rounder, a proper 3D cricketer”.

“Now there’s a fourth dimension as well. He will be a 4D cricketer because captaincy is also there. The only thing is that he has never led any team, even in First-Class cricket. That is the only thing that needs to be looked at. As for his value to the team, we all know it. The thing is, he already has the load. He has to be fielding in the hotspot. He has to do bowling, batting, and now there’s captaincy also,” Badrinath said on Jadeja taking up the captaincy role of the side.

The former Tamil Nadu player also kept a word on Dhoni’s decision to relinquish captaincy ahead of a new season. He was the second draft pick for CSK for 12 crores ahead of the mega auction, while Ravindra Jadeja was paid 16 crores.

“Whatever MS Dhoni does, there must’ve been planning to this. He would’ve certainly thought about it for the last year or so. The announcement just came out but it was in the pipeline” Badrinath concluded saying.
