Delhi Capitals overseas pacer Anrich Nortje has been cleared of any serious injury and is now allowed to join Delhi Capitals camp to continue his rehabilitation. He was last seen playing in the T20 World Cup for South Africa. A stress fracture, more particularly a hip injury ruled him out of the Test series against India and New Zealand.

An update regarding Anrich Nortje’s injury status came from CSA chief medical officer Shuaib Manjra who said that the Protean pacer will continue to complete his rehab in the IPL.

“We did a range of Tests on Anrich and ruled out any serious injury. We felt safe enough to have Anrich do his rehab in India and his return to play in India. We have ruled out the stress fracture of the back,” Manjra said on Saturday.

Nortje’s hip injury became a matter of concern for the South African national team as he missed the ODI series against Bangladesh and came over to the IPL skipping the Test series. The South African pacer was set to miss the first few matches for Delhi but now his recovery seems to be quicker.

A report in Cricbuzz said that Nortje will be available to play for the Capitals from the side’s third game of the season against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, a final decision on Nortje getting a game will decide on the Capitals physio Patrick Farhart analysing his fitness after conducting a few fitness tests. Cricket South Africa had their doubts about sending Nortje to India for the IPL, but the board after deciding with the management has for the moment agreed to allow him to stay with the side to recover from his injury.

The South African pacer snapped 12 wickets from eight matches in IPL 2021 and was subsequently retained by the franchise in the retention players list. Nortje was retained for 6.5 crores along with Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Prithvi Shaw.
