DC vs MI: Good Score On The Board, But Didn't Bowl According To The Plans - Rohit Sharma After Loss To DC
Mumbai Indians (MI) ended up losing their 10th opening match in a row and the streak will be hurting the skipper, Rohit Sharma, to no ends. They lost to Delhi Capitals (DC) in stunning fashion, leading throughout the game only to mess up in the final few overs.
After setting a target of 178 on the board courtesy of Ishan Kishan’s 81*, MI had DC on the ropes at 72/5. The specialist batters were in the hut but the all-rounder trio of Shardul Thakur, Lalit Yadav, and Axar Patel played brilliant knocks to take DC over the line.
“I thought it was a good score. It didn’t look like that kind of a pitch where you could get 170-plus at the start. But we played really well in the middle and finished off really well as well. Good score on the board, it’s just that we didn’t bowl according to the plans,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Whether it’s the first game or last game, we want to try and win” – Rohit Sharma
It has become a tradition of sorts for MI to start off poorly. For the 10th year in a row, they have lost their opening game. They are the perennial slow-starters in the league but Rohit insisted that record is not at the back of their minds.
“(Not won the opening IPL match since 2012?) Honestly, that’s never been the talk. We always come prepared, whether it’s the first game or last game, we want to try and win every game.“
“But we made some mistakes on the field which didn’t go according to plans. But those things can happen. We just need to keep it tight within the group. Disappointed, but it’s not the end,” Rohit added.
