GT vs MI: Very Satisfying, We'll Take That Win With Both Hands - Rohit Sharma On 5-Run Win Over Table-Toppers GT
Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma stated that the win against the table-toppers, Gujarat Titans (GT) was extremely satisfying as they managed to defend a total after looking lost for most of the run chase.
Daniel Sams pulled off a heroic act as he managed to defend 9 runs in the final over against the chase masters, who hadn’t lost a single game while chasing this season.
“It was pretty tight towards the back end. Very satisfying, something we were looking for all this while. Luck has to turn at some stage, we’ll take that win with both hands. Credit to everyone,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Batting first, Mumbai began well as Rohit himself looked in form. Unfortunately, the good start was squandered away before Tim David‘s 44-run knock helped set up a respectable target of 178.
“We were 15-20 runs short. The way we started, we got stuck in the middle. They bowled well in that situation. Tim David finished things really well. We knew it would be tough, but we held our nerves and that was good to see. A lot depends on how the game is going, who’s bowling well on the day.”
“Luckily I had few resources so I could change up. They bowled slower balls and it was difficult to hit. We wanted to do the same. We did that pretty well, it was a great effort from the bowling unit,” he further mentioned.
“Daniel Sams was brilliant” – Rohit Sharma
Sams was under pressure in the final over going up against Daniel Sams and Rahul Tewatia. GT has pulled off even more improbable chases but against the Aussie bowler, they fell short.
“It’s important to back the skills you have. Sams was under the pump in a couple of games but I know the quality he has. It’s important to back those guys. We are trying to maintain the same squad as much as possible. Daniel Sams was brilliant,” Rohit concluded.
