Former Indian pace bowler RP Singh feels Marco Jansen didn’t execute the right plans against Gujarat Titans in the final over of a nail-biting game.

After youngster Umran Malik’s fiery spell  almost turned the match in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s corner. Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia held their nerves to clinch a spectacular run chase in the slog overs.

While chasing 196, Gujarat Titans were 140/5 at the end of 16th over, needing 56 off 24 balls. Rahul Tewatia smashed T Natarajan a four and a six in the penultimate over to bring the equation to 22 runs in the last six balls.

Tewatia smashed Jansen for a six on the first ball followed by Rashid’s three sixes in the last four deliveries to pull off a sensational win.

You can’t rely on slower balls all the time: RP Singh to Marco Jansen

RP Singh said Jansen should have either bowled a yorker or a bouncer to Rashid. The 2009 IPL purple cap winner saud bowling slower deliveries does not help in the slog overs.

You have to bowl yorkers when you are bowling during the death overs, otherwise, it will be very difficult. He (Jansen) did beat Rashid Khan with a slower delivery but you can’t rely on that all the time. He could have also tried a bouncer,” RP Singh told Cricbuzz.

Umran Malik is trying to learn from Dale Steyn and Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Early in the innings, Malik bagged his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket with figures 5/40.

As the Titans marched with an opening stand of 69, that is when Malik stepped up for SRH and knocked Shubman Gill’s stumps in the eighth over.

The youngster used the short ball ploy to outplay Titans skipper Hardik Pandya. Malik nailed the yorker to shatter Saha’s defense. He castled David Miller and Abhinav Manohar in the final two deliveries of his stupendous spell.

RP Singh said Malik is beneffiting from the experience of SRH bowling spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar and fast bowling coach Dale Steyn.

“It is good that Umran Malik is trying to learn from the likes of Dale Steyn and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He used different plans for every batter. I believe that when you have that pace, it is important to make the most of it,” he said.

“He used it to his advantage when Pandya came into bat by bowling a short delivery. Bhuvneshwar is a skilful bowler and would have surely helped Malik by guiding him on how to swing the ball at that pace,” he added.

SRH will play their next match of IPL 2022 against Chennai Super Kings on May 1 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
