Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Tom Moody said sensation pace bowler Umran Malik is growing his confidence in IPL 2022.
Malik continued to allure the cricket world with his bowling prowess as the Jammu & Kashmir speedster tormented Gujarat Titans batters with his sheer pace on Wednesday.
Umran Malik bags 5/25 vs Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans had got off with Wriddhiman Saha’s splendid batting display in their chase of 196. As the Titans marched with an opening stand of 69, that is when Malik stepped up for SRH and knocked Shubman Gill’s stumps in the eighth over.
The youngster used the short ball ploy to outplay Titans skipper Hardik Pandya. Malik nailed the yorker to shatter Saha’s defense. He castled David Miller and Abhinav Manohar in the final two deliveries of his stupendous spell and bagged his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket.
Umran Malik constantly wants to learn and improve: Tom Moody
Malik’s 5/25 went in vain as no other SRH bowler was able to pick wickets against Gujarat Titans. Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan stormed Titans to a five-wicket win with a thrilling finish in the final over.
Titans required 22 to win from the last six deliveries as Tewatia smashed Marco Jansen for a six on the first ball. Vice-captain Rashid tonked three sixes in the last four balls to pull off a sensational win.
Moody said it was tough for Malik to end on the losing side despite bowling a fiery spell.
“The most pleasing thing about Umran is he constantly wants to learn and improve. Tonight his plans were executed well and he gave us a terrific chance to win this game. Umran is still very new to this topic of high-pressure cricket. I’m sure he will gain more and more confidence in the IPL,” Moody said in the post-match press conference.
“Umran Malik is growing in confidence in the tournament and he bowled exceptionally well tonight. Picking up five wickets in this match and it is a tough pill for him to swallow to end up on the losing side. His contribution was such a significant one,” he added.
SRH will play their next match of IPL 2022 against Chennai Super Kings on May 1 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
