Delhi Capitals (DC) kick off their IPL 2022 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 27. The side is placed in group A alongside MI, KKR, RR and newcomers Lucknow Supergiants. Delhi played the finals of IPL 2020 against Mumbai Indians and lost the game, unfortunately. Two years later they have a chance to turn the tables on the five-time IPL champions.

A total of 74 matches will be played across four venues in Maharashtra namely, Wankhede Stadium, Dy Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches each while the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai and MCA Stadium in Pune will play hosts to 15 games each.

The season will start from January 26 with the final to be played on June 29. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings will play the last league game on May 22. Ahead of DC’s first game against Mumbai Indians, we take look at three bowlers who can win the purple cap for the franchise in IPL 2022.

Nortje was one of the four players who was retained by the franchise. He was picked ahead of his countryman Kagiso Rabada by the franchise. In the last two seasons for Delhi, Nortje picked up 34 wickets with just 12 in the last season. He might miss the first few matches for the franchise due to an injury. However, he is too good a bowler to be on the Purple Cap list.

Axar Patel is one of the Indian players who is expected to play all the matches for Delhi Capitals. He was retained for 9 crores ahead of the mega auction. He is playing for DC since 2019 and has been one of their key players. The left-arm spinner has picked up 34 wickets since joining Delhi Capitals. He along with Kuldeep Yadav should be Delhi’s spinning combination now with Ravichandran Ashwin missing.

Kuldeep was roped in by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He was sitting on the sidelines for KKR in the last two seasons. With Delhi, he is expected to get more games and make a case for his international return. Barring Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, the team has no more reputed spinners and if the franchise plays them together in the line-up, they will pose problems for opposition batsmen.
