Andre Russell’s 70 of 30 balls against PBKS was just his 2nd half-century since IPL 2020. The KKR management has shown a lot of trust in him over the years but in the last couple of seasons, Russell didn’t show the same prowess with the bat as he used to. It has got to do with his batting position in the team. Whenever KKR loses, Russell’s batting position is the most discussed topic as KKR’s loss on many occasions coincides with Russel batting lower down the order.

I Love Such Situations To Bat In: Andre Rusell

Russell after his innings in an interview with Star Sports said that he enjoyed the situation and that’s why they play the game.

KKR were in a spot of bother at 51-4 as Rahul Chahar’s double-wicket maiden had made the game poised.

It was good to have someone at the crease like Sam who can rotate and help us stick through the tough time. Once I started sweating, I just said that I am gonna go. I backed my ability and that’s what I did tonight. I am happy to bring the team over the line. I am happy to do whatever the team requires,” Rusell said after the game.

Onn being asked what was his mindset while batting, he revealed that he knew that there was only Narine and other bowlers left in the dugout after him so he told Sam Billings to stitch a partnership together. ” I told Sam, ‘listen, let’s just bat a few overs and see what happens.’ But we had to attack earlier because the left-arm orthodox wasn’t spinning the ball and nothing was happening. So we decided to take charge from one end and look to get singles from the other end. Chahar was bowling extremely well, it was gripping as well. We didn’t want to take much chance against him. We knew it’d get easier,” Russell added.

Rusell hit 8 huge sixes in his innings of 70, on being asked how many he hit from the middle of the bat, he revealed that he hit only one of the 8 from the middle of his bat.
