IPL 2022 Auction: 3 Openers Punjab Kings (PBKS) Can Target

Punjab Kings head into the IPL 2022 mega auction with the highest remaining purse. They have all of 72 crores in which to prepare a solid squad ahead of IPL 2022. The franchise retained Mayank Agarwal (Rs 12 crore), Arshdeep Singh (Rs 4 crore) and are looking to fill a total of 23 slots out of which 8 are for overseas players. KL Rahul parted ways with the franchise after leading them for two years and scoring the most runs for them in the meantime. 

A total 0f 590 players will be participating in the upcoming auction. The BCCI trimmed down the list from a total of 1214 players that was earlier announced. The auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12-13. In this article, we will take a look at three openers Punjab Kings can target in IPL 2022 mega auction.

Chris Lynn

Lynn has proved his mettle in the IPL playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. He was with Mumbai Indians too but failed to get too many games. Incidentally, he played just one game for the franchise. With Mayank Agarwal, at the other end, Lynn can form a terrific pair with the Indian opener. He gets his team to a quick start and Agarwal can keep the innings ticking on from the other end. Lynn also can for a long time at the crease if he gets set.

Martin Guptill

The Kiwi opener is one of the most explosive batsmen in T20 cricket. He has had brief spells in the IPL but has not had enough chances for the teams he has played for. With Punjab looking to rebuild, they can invest in Guptill keeping in mind that this might be the last of the mega auctions. Guptill is among the top run-getters in T20 cricket and has played across various T20 leagues in the world.

Ishan Kishan 

If Punjab Kings are looking for an Indian opener, they can invest in Ishak Kishan. Kishan was released by Mumbai ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Noe of the two new teams was interested in buying him as well. This is where Punja can use a bit of that 72 crores and eye to rope in Kishan. With the franchise looking for a keeper, Kishan can fulfill that role as well.
