IPL 2022 Auction: 5 Highest Bids By Delhi Capitals (DC) In IPL Auction History

Delhi Capitals made some really interesting choices at the auction table in the IPL 2022 mega auction. They bagged reputed players in the IPL for budget prices after winning the bidding battle against other teams. David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Mustafizur Rahman and Shardul Thakur were some of the key buys in the auction. Overall they bought 19 players and their squad size is 23 heading into season 15.

Apart from the above-mentioned players, Delhi Capitals added the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Lungisani Ngidi and even India U-19 skipper Yash Dhull. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at the five most expensive buys of Delhi Capitals in IPL auction history.

Mahela Jayawardene (9.1Cr)

The former Sri Lanka skipper was roped in by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2012. Under him, the side made it to the finals of the tournament that season. With the bat, Jayawardene scored 335 runs that included three fifties. He is now the head coach of Mumbai Indians and a part of three of their five title-winning squads.

Shardul Thakur (10.75 Cr)

The franchise invested heavily in acquiring the services of Shardul Thakur for 10.75 crores in the IPL 2022 auction. He made a reputation for himself playing for CSK in the IPL. However, he was released ahead of IPL 2022 and Delhi cashed in on this opportunity to get him in.

Irfan Pathan (12 Cr)

The former Indian all-rounder was added to the Delhi Capitals outfit in IPL 2012. The Baroda all-rounder was in the 2011 auction purchased by the franchise for a whopping sum of Rs. 11 crores. The southpaw did not have a good season with the bat scoring just 150n runs. With the ball, he managed to get 11 wickets.

Dinesh Karthik (14 Cr)

Dinesh Karthik was bagged at a sum of 14 crores by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2014. Between 2012-2015. Karthik had his best years in the IPL as he was consistently scoring runs. He then joined KKR in 2018 and gave the side a 400-plus run season in 2018 and also led the side. He stayed with them till 2021 and was a part of the side that played the final under Eoin Morgan.

Yuvraj Singh (16 Cr)

Yuvraj was paid the big bucks in IPL 2014 and 2015 seasons. In the 2014 IPL Auction, Yuvraj Singh was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping sum of Rs. 14 crores. He battered it by two crores with Delhi in 2015 who paid them 16 crores. However, he did not produce his best for both the franchises and was ultimately released by both. He played his last IPL game in 2019 for Mumbai Indians.
