The preparations for IPL 2022 are underway and BCCI is gearing up for the IPL 2022 auction, which is set to take place next month. As per the current plans, the IPL 2022 auction is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. With the addition of two new franchises Lucknow and Ahmedabad, 10 teams will take part in the forthcoming mega auctions.

So far, only 27 players have been retained by all the old 8 teams for the next season. Ahead of the auction, the two new franchises will pick 3 players each from the pool of released players. There are many players who have given a consistent performance in IPL but are still underrated. Here we talk about 5 underrated players who will be part of IPL 2022 auction.

5. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is the first player on this list. Dhawan was not retained by Delhi Capitals in spite of giving a fabulous batting show for the team during the last season. The left-handed batsman slammed 587 runs in 16 matches and was the highest run-getter for the team.

With 3 half-centuries, he single-headedly took the team to victory in a few games. In the last 6 seasons, he has batted at an average above 36, except for the 2019 season when he touched 34.73. In spite of his fabulous batting performance in the tournament, Dhawan do not attract an expensive deal for himself as compared to other top players.

4. Nitish Rana

Nitish Rana is another player on this list. Kolkata Knight Riders released Nitish Rana from the squad ahead of IPL 2022. Since IPL 2017, the left-handed batsman has always scored 300+ runs in every season.

The left-handed batter owns a lot of credit for KKR’s success in the past few seasons. He is one of the top middle-order batsmen in the tournament. However, the KKR released him out of the squad and he will not gain much limelight during IPL 2022 auction.

3. Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal is another player on this list. Padikkal made his debut in IPL 2020 for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Finishing as the top-run getter for his team in 2020, he became a crucial member of the team.

In IPL 2021, he slammed 411 runs in 14 games. He also slammed a marvellous century in one clash. In spite of such wonderful performances, the team did not retain him in the squad despite having a vacant spot for retentions.

2. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel is another underrated player who will be part of IPL 2022 auction. Patel was traded by Delhi Capitals to Royal Challengers Bangalore last season. The deal emerged too fruitful for the team, as the right-arm pacer finished with most 32 wickets in IPL 2021 and won the purple cap.

He also equalled the record for most wickets in a single IPL season. The 31-year-old has been part of the tournament since the 2012 season but has got limited opportunities. So far in 10 seasons, he has only played 63 games in his IPL career. Patel was not retained by RCB and he will be part of the IPL 2022 mega auctions.

1. Jason Holder

Jason Holder is another player on this list. Jason Holder is one of the top all-rounders in international cricket. However, in IPL, he has not got enough opportunities. Holder was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last few seasons.

In just 8 games in IPL 2021, he scalped 16 wickets at an average of 15.43 and scored 85 runs in 7 innings. Jason Holder is a brilliant all-rounder in T20 format but always undervalued in IPL, getting only a few chances to play. In 5 IPL seasons so far, the West Indies all-rounder has only featured in 26 matches.
