IPL 2022 Auction: 5 Oldest Players Who Will Be A Part of the Mega Auction

The final list for IPL 2022 auctions are out and 590 players have been shortlisted. The BCCI had earlier announced a list of 1214 players for the auction which was further trimmed down. The auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. The season is scheduled to start in Match and run till the end of May. 

Moreover, the list comprises 228 capped players and 355 uncapped players. In the overseas category, Australia has the most 47 players followed by West Indies with 34 players and South Africa with 33 players. A total of 48 players are part of the Rs. 2 crore base price. 20 players have identified themselves in Rs. 1.5 crore base price while 34 players are part of Rs. 1 crore bracket.

Various players over the age of 35 years have enrolled themselves for the auction. Imran Tahir at 42 years is the oldest player to be named in the auction. There are several others as well and in this article, we will take a look at the top 5 oldest players in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

5) Dwayne Bravo-38 Years 

Bravo concludes the list of oldest players to head into theIPL 2022 mega auction. He was released by CSK and has an equal chance to be bought by them at the mega auction. He won four IPL titles with CSK and won two Purple caps (2013 2015) as well. He is counted among the greats in the IPL and his stats back the saying. The all-rounder has registered 1,537 runs and 167 wickets to his name in 151 IPL matches.

4) S Sreesanth- 39 Years

Sreesanth is aiming to make a comeback to the IPL at 39. He was a part of 2007 and 2011 World Cup-winning teams with Team India under MS Dhoni. He has further hopes of making a comeback for India through his performances in the IPL. 

Sreesanth was banned from playing cricket for life due to spot-fixing allegations in 2013. However, in 2019 High Court of India lifted the life ban, and BCCI decided his term to be 7 years, which was already completed by then. He has picked up 44 wickets in 40 IPL games. He has kept a base price of 50 lakhs in the upcoming mega auction.

3) Amit Mishra-39 Years 

The veteran Indian spinner has enrolled himself at a base price of 1.5 crores. However, he is ageing close to 40 and might be overlooked for the upcoming auction. Mishra has 166 wickets to his name in 154 IPL matches, averaging 23.95 and striking at 19.5 with an economy of 7.35. He played just four matches for Delhi Capitals in 2021.

2) Fidel Edwards-40 Years 

The WIndies pacer is 40 years young and has enrolled himself for the IPL 2022 mega auction. He last played in the IPL back in 2009 for Deccan Chargers. Since then, almost an entire generation has played and retired from international cricket. The bowler has set his base price at 50 lakhs. He played five games and has picked up six wickets. 

1) Imran Tahir – 43 Years 

Imran Tahir is currently enjoying his time in the PSL. He is playing for Multan Sultans. A few days ago he played for the World Giants and won them a game against India Maharajas single-handedly. Tahir was with Chennai Super Kings from 2018 and was released ahead of the mega auction.

With the skill that he possesses, he will be a brilliant asset for any team. He might be on the wishlist of almost all the franchises. Imran Tahir has picked up 82 wickets in 59 IPL matches, averaging 20.76 and striking at 16.0 with an economy of 7.76.
