IPL 2022 Auction Dates Revealed, The Mega Event Likely To Be A Two-Day Affair- Reports

As per the latest media reports, the IPL 2022 auction date has been confirmed by the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council and the mega auction is all set to take place in the first week of February. If reports are to be believed, the IPL 2022 auction will be a two-day affair, much similar to the 2018 mega auction.

It is notable that the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be a grand event as it will witness the induction of 2 new teams in the form of Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Until now, the league was being played with 8 teams in the title hunt but now, the expansion of the league has commenced.

As per the latest reports published on Cricket.com, “The IPL 2022 auction is all set to take place in the first week of February. The report also stated that it will be a two-day affair as it was in 2018 but the IPL GC is planning to make it a lot grander this time. Bangalore and Hyderabad have emerged as the two frontrunner cities for the IPL 2022 auction to be held keeping better screening process in mind.”

Notably, the retention for IPL 2022 took place on November 30 this year wherein a lot of senior and star players were released by the already existing 8 franchises. Now, the 2 new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad can retain 3 players each from the pool of released players with not more than one overseas player being retained by each of the 2 new franchises.

As per reports, KL Rahul is all set to captain the Lucknow franchise while Shreyas Iyer will be seen leading the Ahmedabad franchise. Apart from that, Andy Flower has also been appointed as the head coach of the Lucknow franchise for IPL 2022. If reports are to be believed, Ahmedabad might go after David Warner and Hardik Pandya while Lucknow is all set to bid for Rashid Khan.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow franchise has roped in former Indian player and the former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir as their mentor for the upcoming season of the IPL.
