West Indies vice-captain Nicholas Pooran splurged INR 15,000 on giving his teammates a pizza party after he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 10.75 crores in the recently concluded Indian Premier League-IPL 2022 mega auction, which was held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
The IPL 2022 auction saw 204 players being sold to ten franchises who spent over Rs 550 crores in the auction. Ishan Kishan was the highest-paid star in the IPL 2022 auction who fetched INR 15.25 crores from Mumbai Indians, while Deepak Chahar got INR 14 crores from Chennai Super Kings, as both the franchises bought back the players they had to leave out before the IPL auction.
Meanwhile, both India and West Indies are currently in Kolkata for the three-match T20I series which begins at the Eden Gardens from February 16 onwards.
Nicholas Pooran Placed The Order At The Hotel Chef For 15 Pizzas
Pooran had endured an abysmal IPL 2021 season for Punjab Kings scoring 85 runs at a poor average of 7.72 and in the ongoing series too his performances have been below par. However, still in the IPL 2022 auction, Punjab Kings went all out for the keeper-batter and got him after a tussle with Sunrisers Hyderabad for a record price.
Now it has been revealed that after his huge IPL payday Pooran treated his team to a pizza party, but since outside food is not allowed, he placed an order for 15 pizzas to the hotel chef and had them delivered into his room.
“Since outside food is not allowed he placed the order at the hotel chef for 15 pizzas. It needed to be vetted by a qualified chef. Since it’s a strict grade one bio bubble we have to tell the food temperature and how it is sanitized and then only it goes to the room. There were a total of 15 pizza boxes and everything was sanitized before being delivered to the room. The player had to make the payment,” the local manager told PTI.
However, this was not enough, Pooran even got an electric shock, after he had requested the staff for a spare phone charger which was sanitized and when he plugged it in, Pooran got a shock.
“When he put it in the socket, he was shaken by a mild shock. Sanitizer contains alcohol and probably it did not dry up properly when he plugged it to get a jolt. The visitors will have a day’s break in Kolkata after the third and final T20I of the series here on Sunday, the local manager said. They will go for golfing and do some shopping in the evening. They are scheduled to fly out on Tuesday,” the team manager said.
