Brad Hogg, a former Australian left-arm wrist-spinner, says the Mumbai Indians (MI) are doing the proper thing by bringing in Suryakumar Yadav to bat at No. 5. The 31-year-old has been MI’s best batter this season, and many believe that the best batter should get the most pitches.
Hogg, on the other hand, believes that the courageous cricket played by teenagers like Dewald Brevis and Tilak Varma should be encouraged and that the pair should bat higher in order.
MI’s batting order, per Brad Hogg:
“Suryakumar Yadav should bat earlier in the order, according to most people. No, I do not believe that is true. Bring Brevis and Tilak once Rohit and Ishan have opened. They’re doing out their duties. They’re scoring at a good clip, excelling in powerplay overs, and batting well down the middle.”
Brad Hogg also discussed Yadav’s ability, versatility, and capability to bat at any position for India, all of which would be beneficial to MI. He continued, ”
“Suryakumar Yadav has a lot of experience, which you’ll need in the backend. That’s a job he’s capable of doing. Not only for Mumbai, but because he can bat in a variety of positions, it will put him in an excellent position to represent India more frequently.”
It’s not a good idea for Jasprit Bumrah to bowl initially: Brad Hogg
MI has failed to take up wickets in the powerplay this season, and many believe one of the key reasons is Jasprit Bumrah’s underuse of the new ball.
Brad Hogg, on the other hand, believes Bumrah should be employed as an enforcer in the middle overs, with Basil Thampi and Jaydev Unadkat attempting to collect wickets with the new ball.
“Bumrah is widely regarded as the best bowler in the world. No, I don’t believe so. Give the new ball to Unadkat and Thampi, and if they get a couple of wickets, it relieves the strain on Bumrah, allowing him to go after more wickets and smash the opposition’s middle order.”
On Saturday, Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
